What's it like to be a parent in a war zone?

What's it like to be a parent in a war zone? Perhaps this is not the first question that comes to your mind when you watch the news about armed conflicts, wars and refugee families. Perhaps this theme raises several feelings and questions in you, but this was one of the doubts that came to mind the psychologist Aala El-Khani.

I recently saw a TEDTalk from Psychologist Aala El-Khani in which she tells how television news stories about the war in Syria led her to question how to raise children in war camps or in refugee housing, and also to question whether guidance to parents would be helpful to these families while they are still in war camps or refugee housing.

In this video, Aala El-Khani shares her work initiated during her PhD studies, in which she supported and learned together with refugee families strategies to support the whole family. The report of her work is beautiful and very inspiring and shows us that even in such adverse situations parents are still motivated to help their children, they just do not know what to do and where to start.

I invite you to watch this video and reflect about the lives of these families!

See you next time,
Laura
