Betty & Cat: a bilingual book to kids!

As I wrote in others posts, one of the biggest challenges that families with children have is bilingualism. As I mentioned in this post, there are some strategies that you can follow to make this process easier. But to illustrate one of those strategies I am going to share a book that I got to know a few weeks ago and I feel in love with.

It’s not only the children that go through these challenges but also parents who need to learn a new language and deal with the fact that your child may know more about the language than you. Therefore learning a new language is a task that involves the whole family in different ways.

The book series “Betty & Cat’, written by Hennie Jacobs e Cristine Duvernois, are bilingual books for kids with a twist. Instead of just translating the story to another language, the book has a new and unique concept.

Betty, is a dog, and speaks Dutch and Cat, is a cat, speaks in English, but they are roommates and friends. Betty and Cat share adventures together, but speaking their own language and understanding each other.

This book can be used educationally or for leisure, since it’s possible to the bilingual child to use both languages while reading or listening in a integrate manner, not translating but sharing the story
.
You can find books in these language combinations:

> French/ English
> Spanish/English
> Spanish/French
> Dutch/English
 >Dutch/ French
